A characterful single-vineyard Pinotage from the Springfontein Rim, shaped by maritime limestone soils, cool Atlantic winds and an exceptional mineral depth. Jonathan’s Ridge comes from a clearly defined single vineyard on the Springfontein Rim – a vineyard whose particular combination of soil, site and maritime influence gives it a distinctive character.

The Pinotage vines, planted in 2002, stand on maritime limestone soils with sandy dune material. The shallow topsoil sits on deep, soft limestone formations into which the roots extend far. The high active lime content preserves natural acidity and gives the wine its characteristic saline, mineral texture. The exposed site is subject to the Atlantic’s strong, cool winds, which also provide optimal drainage and air circulation.

Jonathan’s Ridge is made with the greatest attention to its origin and a high degree of manual work. The hand-picked grapes are carefully selected and chilled overnight. After destemming, the whole berries are spontaneously fermented in open fermentation vessels and punched down by hand regularly during the 16-day maceration.

The wine matures for an exceptionally long period in French and American oak barrels. This extended maturation allows it to integrate its concentration and structure while preserving the characteristic minerality and freshness of its origin.

Jonathan’s Ridge is Pinotage in its most concentrated and long-lived form – a wine in which the single vineyard and its terroir take centre stage.
