From the very beginning, Springfontein was meant to be more than a place where wine is made. It was meant to be a place where people could meet, exchange ideas, learn from one another — and simply spend time together.
That spirit remains at the heart of our hospitality. Our wines are often the starting point: something to taste, discuss and share. But the real experience begins when you stay long enough to discover the place behind the bottle — to walk through the vineyards and fynbos, explore the Springfontein Rim, meet the people who work here, sit around a table, or simply do nothing for a while.
Hospitality is therefore written in capital letters at Springfontein.
We want our guests to feel welcome without ceremony and at home without pretending that this is home. To experience the estate as it is: secluded, peaceful and still very much a working farm. There is the river below, the mountains beyond, the ocean not far away, and enough space in between to breathe.
For those who want to explore, there are wines to taste, food to discover and the landscape to experience — on foot, by minibus or from the water aboard Springfontein’s African Queen on the Klein River. And for those who simply want to retreat from the noise, there is the quiet itself.
Our River Lodge and Cottages offer two different ways of staying at Springfontein. The Lodge is a single, newly renovated home for eight rooms gathered together on the banks of the Klein River — “quality without chi-chi,” with spectacular views guaranteed. The Cottages are the opposite: a handful of separate, individually characterful buildings scattered across the farm, each “klein aber fein” in its own way, with its own history and its own kind of quiet.

Springfontein River Lodge
We have finally unveiled our newly renovated Springfontein River Lodge – designed by renowned German architect Sigrid Mantz. With more than 500 m of direct river front, a private jetty, and a bird spectacle guaranteed, the eight rooms offer the perfect hideaway. Only a short walking distance from Springfontein’s main tourism area, the Lodge offers a new perspective on the beauty of the farm and the surroundings.
The river can be accessed for water activities and swimming. Together with the Kleinriver mountains in the background, it also offers the perfect setting for Sundowner, as the water becomes flat like a mirror during golden hour. The Lodge offers three Riverview Rooms, three Riverview Suites, our River Panorama Suite on the first floor, and the Family Suite. Each room has their own balcony and offers exclusive, magnificent views.
Springfontein Cottages
Nestled under majestic Milkwood trees, our Riverside Cottages offer three suites in an authentic South African house with thatched roof on the Klein River side of our farm. The rooms are called after the Limestone Rocks Range: Gadda da Vida, Child in Time and Dark Side of the Moon.
The historic cottage has been renovated with extreme attention to detail, trying to preserve its ancient charm.
One of the Estate’s two jetties to the Klein River is in walking distance.
Two of the suites each offer a large bedroom with a breathtaking view of the Maanskynkop mountain, a comfortable sitting room and a large en-suite bathroom (with shower and bathtub).
The third suite additionally features an open living plan, a nice fireplace for the cooler days, a shaded patio for a relaxing time, and a private swimming pool.
Hidden in a Milkwood forest, this spacious cottage offers one large en-suite bedroom, an open plan sitting area, an inside fireplace for the cooler days and a pleasant outside patio for the warmer days.
The big swimming pool is in walking distance while intimacy is guaranteed.
Just like the Fisherman’s Cottage, our Milkwood Cottage offers the opportunity to experience a typical South African outside shower.
This cottage offers the perfect feel of home away from home in the calm setting of Nature’s tranquility.
This beautiful, cute and intimate cottage was one of the first homesteads on the farm. It maintains the style of a historic fisherman’s cottage, as they are typically found within the Western Cape area.
The cottage has been renovated to offer all the comforts of the modern world in a cozy and romantic one-room unit. It has an open fireplace to keep you warm during the cooler days and sleeps two guests.
Also, the cottage offers the opportunity to enjoy a typical South African outdoor shower.
As this very cottage perfectly describes the humbleness we are trying to reflect in Springfontein’s philosophy, from the very first days on it has been chosen as the symbol within our Estate’s logo.
