Springfontein Wine Estate

Adventure and relaxation intertwine naturally at Springfontein. Guests are invited to explore at their own pace and experience the estate in a way that feels both grounded and unstructured.

Springfontein is not a resort. It is an estate.
A place to taste, walk, watch, paddle, and reconnect—with nature, with wine, and with food crafted from the very land you are on. Quality without chi-chi. Everything here is intentionally unfiltered—from the wines to the experience itself.

Guided vineyard tours are available for individuals and small groups by appointment, subject to ongoing vineyard work. For independent exploration, guests are welcome to wander through vineyard blocks, fynbos fields, eucalyptus groves, and milkwood forests, with a network of marked hiking and mountain biking trails catering to all levels of stamina and experience.

Activities on the Farm

– Walk or cycle through vineyards, fynbos, riverbanks, and indigenous forest

– Paddle along the Klein River by kayak, offering a unique perspective of the bird sanctuary

– Observe a rich variety of local birds and wildlife

– Pause and absorb the slow rhythm of life on the farm

– Enjoy a refreshing swim or light recreation on the tennis court

Springfontein also serves as an ideal base for exploring the greater Walker Bay region. Nearby, the ocean offers long walks along pristine white-sand beaches, drifting between dunes and wild coastline. For equestrian enthusiasts, the African Horse Company provides both relaxed and more spirited riding experiences through the landscape.

Seasonally, Walker Bay becomes a world-renowned destination for Southern Right whale watching in Hermanus and Gansbaai. Adventurous guests can also experience Great White shark cage diving year-round, while nearby penguin and seal colonies add to the richness of the coastal ecosystem.

We are always delighted to assist guests in creating a tailored programme for their stay—combining the very best of Springfontein’s nature, wildlife, food, and adventure experiences into a meaningful and memorable journey.

Boat Cruises

If weather permitting, a trip on the African Queen of Springfontein on the Klein River, which crosses the farm, should be an integral part of every visit to Springfontein. Admittedly it is not Charlie Allnut alias Humphrey “Bogie” Bogart who is leading the boat. But under the command of our friend, partner and skipper Adriaan “Koekie” Swart, you will gain incomparable insights and most intensive impressions of our estate’s marshland areas with their very special fauna and flora. And if you like it, you can enjoy a “sundowner”, a wine tasting or even a braai “on the high seas”, face to face with the spectacular mountain massif rising from sea level to almost 1,000 metres around the central Maanskynkop (“Moonshine Peak”).
