Jil’s Dune is a single-vineyard Chenin Blanc from Block #14 at Springfontein. The vines are rooted in lime-rich, maritime dunes near the confluence of the Benguela and Agulhas currents. Just a few kilometres from the Atlantic, cool sea breezes, strong day-to-night temperature swings and the highly alkaline limestone soils shape this wine’s distinctive character.
The wine is named after the dune behind the estate, which holds special significance for the family. It was a place of childhood, and lies on the coast where whales return to the bay every winter.
In the glass, Jil’s Dune shows a bright, elegant aromatic profile of pineapple, citrus zest and white blossom, accompanied by fine hints of oak and vanilla. On the palate it combines a juicy, soft texture with a mineral, saline core. A natural, subtle spritz adds extra tension and energy. The finish is precise, fresh and lingering.
The grapes are hand-picked over several passes. After a gentle whole-bunch pressing, spontaneous fermentation takes place with natural yeasts in egg-shaped fermenters and French barriques. The wine then matures on the fine lees before being bottled unfiltered and with minimal sulphur use.

2016 · 94 Pts. · Markus Del Monego · Bright yellow colour with golden hue. Opulent nose with distinct oak influence, vanilla, toasted brioche, hazelnuts, rich aroma reminiscent of candied Williams pear, dried pineapple, candied lemon zest, ripe Cavaillon melon. Developing a wonderful aroma of Tarte Tatin. On the palate well balanced with smooth character, creamy texture, flavour reminiscent of ripe yellow stone fruit and hints of toasted brioche. A wine which is on one side characterised by the distinct oak influence, yet displays an interesting tension in the finish.
