Our chef, our maestro, our don — Rui — is leading his kitchen crew into their second season at Wortelgat. Under his guidance, this young and passionate team has grown beyond themselves, shaping something truly special.

Together with Billy, Blessing, Gummy, and Lorma, Rui has built more than a kitchen crew — he’s built a team – united in purpose, driven by curiosity, and empowered to express their individuality through flavour.

Think wine dining instead of fine dining. Quality without chi-chi. Wortelgat is offering authentic, terroir-driven kitchen.

Expect some of Rui’s signature dishes, ingredients wild-foraged from the farm, and produce from local and neighbouring artisans — all crafted around a very special selection of Springfontein wines.

In the front of house, Zinhle (“Mama Zee”) and Tafadzwa (“Taffy”), together with the rest of the service team, are ready to welcome you back and make your experience unforgettable.

Having honed his craft for many years in the European gastronomic world (with his own restaurants in both Brussels and Essen), Rui now brings his expertise home — empowering, guiding, and inspiring the next generation of culinary talent here at Springfontein.
