Springfontein Wine Estate

Springfontein Wine Estate is extremely proud to finally unveil and open the fully renovated Springfontein River Lodge.

The Springfontein River Lodge adds another seven rooms (3 Riverview Rooms, 3 Riverview Suites, and one River Panorama Suite) to the existing five rooms (Fisherman’s Cottage, Milkwood Cottage, and three Riverside Suites) on the estate. Another family room is in the making.

We bought the neighboring property and former Stanford River Lodge back in 2021, whereas renovation works only commenced in 2023.  Way above the initial timeline and budget, the outcome also is way above what we dared to expect 😊.

It is the only guest accommodation along the Klein River with direct access to the river, each room offering a spectacular view of the river, and the Klein River Mountains in the back. All rooms have a private balcony, access to the garden, and are equipped with an en-suite bathroom. The Suites category offers more space and includes a bathtub, whereas the Panorama Suite on the first floor is the undisputed highlight of the Lodge.

The Klein River not only is the shortest river in South Africa, but also an oasis of tranquility. It is the perfect getaway for birdwatching, kayaking, a long swim, or a simple sundowner with a glass of Springfontein wine.

For private tours on the River Rat (or the African Queen for bigger groups), a pick-up and drop-off from the Lodge’s jetty can be arranged. This will allow you to explore the neighboring bird sanctuary from the water, to travel from and to the famous Stanford Village, or to simply spend a day on the water – braai included.

With two restaurants on site, the ULUMABAZA Wine Bar(n) and the WORTELGAT F/Wine Dining, and an extensive offer of award-winning estate wines of origin Springfontein Rim (the country’s only vines grown on maritime limestone), Springfontein Wine Estate is a true culinary gem.

Other activities on the farm include but are not limited to hiking routes, swimming pools, exploring the farm or the neighboring Walker Bay Nature Reserve with its extensive fynbos vegetation, or spending a day at your “private” beach (4×4 required 😊). The area offers a broad range of additional activities, such as whale watching and shark cage diving.

Springfontein Wine Estate is only 2 hours from Cape Town, and 30 minutes from Hermanus.

And did you know, our access road from Stanford is currently being properly upgraded and tarred? You will be on Springfontein grounds as soon as the tar road ends. A true countryside experience.
