Springfontein Wine Estate is consequently pursuing not least the culinary path of emphasising the special terroir of the estate, which is particularly known for its limestone Pinotages and Chenels. After two years of intensive and dedicated empowerment support by the Dutch 2-Michelin-star chef Edwin Vinke, on 1 October 2023 South African Janine van der Nest is now taking over the kitchen baton.
Ms van der Nest will not only work as Head Chef but will be in complete overall charge of Springfontein’s F&B business. After various other stations between Cape Town and Hermanus, she has successfully managed the restaurant at Stanford-based Manor House over the past few years, helping it to achieve high regional and supra-regional recognition. She will now focus on offering Springfontein’s guests a two-pronged approach around the estate’s wines with the bistro-style Ulumbaza Wine Bar(n) and the Wortelgat F/Wine Dining, both of which serving down-to-earth cuisine of the highest quality despite their different emphases.
