Springfontein Wine Estate

The first photo was taken in 2013, the other eleven (!!!) years later. Both show the very same person, in our very same kitchen. We are extremely happy that, on 1 August 2024, Joseph J Pook took over the main responsibility for Springfontein kitchen.

Joseph is a born Stanfordian and an ‘old acquaintance’ to Springfontein. For several years he held a prominent position in the kitchen of our former ‘SPRINGFONTEIN EATS’ under Jürgen Schneider. He then gained further experience overseas and in the Overberg at various restaurants, some of them awarded 2 and 3 Michelin stars. Today we are very pleased and delighted that Joseph did return to his roots. We wish him the energy and stamina required for success in his highly responsible work, as well as the necessary bit of luck that is due to those who make the effort.

To kick-off, Joseph has introduced a new and truly delicious menu for the ULUMBAZA Wine Bar(n). ULUMBAZA is intended to provide a home for our friends, neighbours and guests, not least through the ULUMBAZA Club, to taste our wines in a relaxed atmosphere, but also to enjoy unique meals within an “every-day” budget. We believe the new menu perfectly fits in here. The whole ULUMBAZA crew is looking forward to hosting you soonest, and to introduce the new menu to you in person.

WORTELGAT, our “icing on the cake” for special occasions and extraordinary experiences, will open its doors for its fourth season later this year. Stay posted to get all the details on the new season soonest. On the fine-dining side, the objective will remain to deliver an equally down-to-earth and terroir-driven experience, with the best possible quality.
